Some Enchanted Evening

Pounding Hearts from Richard Strauss to Rodgers and Hammerstein

Let yourself be enchanted by an evening of songs from both sides of the Atlantic Ocean.

Love, longing, and memories from childhood are universal themes across the borders of time and geography. Folk songs express some of our most fundamental wishes- and the masters of Lied knew how to harness this power in their works of art.

Follow the breathless young man in Richard Strauss‘ depiction of a marriage proposal in the green Alps, experience the demise of Mozart’s violet who will happily be trodden to death by his beloved, and share the longing of an Irish sailor for his love lost in Carrickfergus.

From the sweet sounds of her hometown Vienna to the emotional tales of her native New York, soprano Arabella Fenyves paints pictures to be enjoyed along a musical voyage from Europe to the Americas. Pantelis Polychronidis joins her at the piano, sharing his vision of touching music by Richard Strauss, W.A. Mozart, Antonin Dvořák, Johannes Brahms, George Gershwin, Rodgers and Hammerstein, Cole Porter and many more.

Soprano Arabella Fenyves studied in London and Vienna with Renate Holm, Christa Ludwig and Annely Peebo.

Concert engagements have brought her to Vienna’s Musikverein, the Vienna Konzerthaus, St Stephen’s Cathedral and other venues across Austria, as well as numerous stages in Berlin, London, Florence, Teheran, Toronto and Virginia.

The Austrian-American singer not only performs opera, sacred repertoire and Lieder, but is equally at home in jazz, South American music and French chanson.

Pianist Pantelis Polychronidis is a Senior Lecturer at the University for Music and Performing Arts Vienna.

He accompanies many promising young singers from Vienna’s State Opera as well as playing for numerous singing competitions across Austria.

Originally from Volos, Greece, he had the privilege of accompanying the class of acclaimed American operatic singer Shirley Verrett during his studies in the USA.

Amongst his most influential piano teachers were Martin Katz, Charles Spencer and Paul Badura-Skoda.
